SureSmile Clear Aligners
SureSmile clear aligners allow you to be flexible and discreet with your orthodontic treatment in a way that traditional metal braces cannot offer. Instead of brackets, wires, and rubber bands, you wear a clear plastic aligner that slides over each row of teeth in your mouth. The aligners produce the same effects as standard braces by applying pressure to shift your teeth into a more desirable position.
Your Initial Appointment
If you are interested in SureSmile clear aligners, you should first contact Capitol Dental Associates to request a consultation. Your first appointment allows you and our dentist to get to know each other and for you to have your questions answered. Our dentist will determine if you are a good candidate for orthodontic treatment with SureSmile clear aligners. Most patients are, but traditional braces are usually better for patients with severe alignment issues, a pronounced overbite or underbite, or many overlapping teeth.
X-rays and impressions
Once our dentist has determined you are a good candidate for SureSmile clear aligners and you have decided to move forward with orthodontic treatment, you need X-rays and impressions of your teeth and gums to help our dentist plan your treatment goals. Our laboratory technicians create a set of customized aligners based on the notes, impressions, and X-rays our dentist provides.
Your Second Appointment
We will contact you to schedule a visit to Capitol Dental Associates when our dentist receives your set of customized aligners from the laboratory. You will place the first aligners in the set over your top and bottom rows of teeth to see how they fit. Our dentist will then make any needed adjustments. We will then provide you with complete instructions on how to wear and care for your clear aligners before you go home.
Completing Your Treatment
You need to swap one set of aligners for the next ones in the case at two-week intervals. You can remove them when eating, brushing your teeth, or for a special occasion, but plan to keep the aligners in at least 22 hours a day to ensure efficient treatment.
