Veneers
Dental veneers are a popular way to disguise minor imperfections in your smile. Some of the most common concerns patients come to us with include cracked, chipped, stained, or misshapen teeth. Disguising a wide gap between the two front teeth is also a typical use of veneers. If you feel dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile, we encourage you to reach out to Capitol Dental Associates to learn more about veneers and whether they are right for you.
What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin and translucent pieces of porcelain that our dentist adheres to the front of your tooth surface. A technician from our laboratory crafts a customized veneer for you based on the X-rays and mold of your tooth obtained from our dentist. You should continue your normal oral hygiene routine once you receive a veneer. Be sure to avoid biting into hard foods with the treated tooth to prevent possible breakage.
What to Expect
When you come in for your cosmetic dentistry appointment, our dentist first provides you with Novocain or an anesthetic to dull your pain sensations. Once our dentist is sure that you are comfortable, the next step is to remove up to one-eighth of a millimeter of enamel from your tooth to ensure that it will retain the veneer. If our dentist did not remove any enamel, your tooth would be too bulky for the procedure.
After removing a small amount of tooth enamel, our dentist applies a strong dental adhesive to the front of your tooth. The adhesive bonds with the veneer, which keeps it firmly in place.
Lastly, our dentist holds a dental instrument that emits strong light and laser beams to dry the dental adhesive faster than it would otherwise. After trimming away excess dental putty from your tooth, you are free to share your new smile with the world.
